Avocats Hors Québec organizes information and networking events in different parts of the world where our members are located.
On 31 March 2021, some of our members virtually met with law students from the Université de Montréal in the context of a panel organized by the Centre de développement professionnel of the law faculty around the theme “the practice of law by members of the Quebec Bar abroad”. We had reached out to you for this event, and many of you responded to the call! This was the occasion to discuss with UdeM students about the different opportunities offered by the status of lawyer abroad, with speakers working in different fields and having completely different careers. We wish to thank warmly Mes Geneviève Bérubé, Fannie De Longchamp, Simon Lafrance, Lucie Laplante, Laurence Marquis and Oksana Wolfson for sharing their working abroad experience with the participants. The event was a real success, with more than 50 participants.
On 26 February 2021, some AHQ board members, namely Stéphane Grynwajc, Jessica Joly Hébert, Jérôme Mellon and Marie-Pierre Olivier, virtually participated to a “Careers in International Law” panel with about thirty law students from McGill University. Organized by the McGill International Law Society, the event kicked off with an exchange, animated by Sophie Roy-Lafleur, director of the Career Development Office of the McGill law faculty, and the students in charge of the event. We talked about careers abroad, the ups and down of living as an expat, as well as the advantages of nurturing and maintaining a rich professional network, even when based abroad. It was followed by a Q&A, in French and in English. Afterwards, coffee-chat breakout rooms were created where the panelists could have individual discussions with some students, depending on the students’ interests and career aspirations. On October 26, 2017, Avocats Hors Québec held a reception in Toronto to which all members of the Quebec Bar in the Greater Toronto Area were invited. The reception was organized in collaboration with the Quebec Office in Toronto and took place at the offices of WeirFoulds LLP, one of the reception’s sponsors. Approximately 300 members of the Barreau du Québec are located in the Greater Toronto Area. The invitations sent by AHQ aroused great interest and several people who were not available to attend the reception expressly requested to be kept informed of any similar event in the future. More than 40 people attended the reception and they were obviously very happy to be able to network with other members of the Barreau du Québec in Toronto. Click here for more details.
